The Chinese Film Festival 2019 (CFF), which is the most distinguished and significant event in Chinese film industry worldwide, is organized by Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, China Cultural Center in Pakistan, Network of International Culturalink Entities, China Film Archive and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in celebration of 70th Founding Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and 68th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Diplomatic Relations between China & Pakistan with effect from 3rd July 2019 to 6th July 2019 at PNCA, Islamabad.
Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information & Broadcasting and H.E Mr. Yao Jing, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China & Syed Jamal Shah, Director General PNCA will participate as a Chief Guest along with other eminent guest in the opening ceremony of Chinese Film Festival 2019 on
3rd July 2019 at 7:00 PM.
It is aimed to introduce new Chinese films to Pakistani audiences, to broaden the understanding of Chinese film culture, and increase the collaboration between Chinese film professionals and their Pakistani counterparts.
A film conference & film lecture is also part of China Film Festival. Film Conference (11:00 AM) & Film Lecture (2:00 PM) will be held on 5th July 2019 at China Cultural Center in PNCA, Islamabad. Film Makers, actors, directors and film industry representatives will sit together to discuss cooperation in respective fields.
A 3 member Chinese film delegation comparing of Mr. Zhang Xin, Director Department of Exchange & Cooperation of Network of International Culturalink Entities, Mr. Zhou Xing, Director & Professor of Art Education Research Center of Beijing Normal University and Mr. Wang Xinglin specially participated in China Film Festival from Beijing, China.
Chinese Film Festival will bring following 10 Masterpieces of Chinese Cinema to Pakistani screens, which will receive massive appraisal of local audience.
1) The Founding of a Republic
After the war against Japan, the anti-war sentiments of all classes, parties and masses fly high. By the effort of the patriotic personages, the two parties, Communist Party and Kuomintang open “Chongqing Negotiation”. The Communist Party members of China led by Mao Tse-tung, through the establishment of the board united patriotic front, gain loyal and strong support of the whole nation, laying a solid foundation for the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. A decisive battle for a new China kicks of henceforth.
2) Operation Mekong
Inspired by the true story known as the Mekong Massacre-two Chinese commercial vessels are ambushed while traveling down the reach called “The Gate of Hell” of Mekong river in the waters of the Golden Triangle. The relative authorities accuse the Chinese commercial vessels of drug trafficking and claim all the sailors have escaped. However, the bodies of 13 Chinese sailors are discovered soon, giving a great shock to the Chinese police. According to the investigation, the attack is fomented by the notorious drug trafficker boss Naw Kham, the Golden Triangle being their stronghold. 3) The Grandmaster
In 1936, the grandmaster of Bagua first position in advanced years and gives an announcement of retiring. And naturally his position as president of the Chinese Martial Arts Association is favored by all the martial arts master, and fierce competition follows at this point.
4) The Knot
The young man Chen Qiushui has formulated a set of happy learning methods, singing together with Wang Biyun to lean English. Soon they two fell in love with each other. Qiushui, however, is a left-wing person who must travel to the mainland China for refuge. The couple swears to love each other unswervingly before separation. The parting is long, and Qiushui even loses contact with Taiwan Island. The nurse in the army named Wang Jindi confesses for love to Qiushui. Qiushui attempts to find Biyun many times, but all in vain, so he decides to hide old feelings in his heart finally marrying with Wang Jindi. However, Qiushui does not know that Biyun waits for him in Taiwan at the whole life and never ever gets married.
A pretty Sani girl named Ashima is ingenious and kindhearted who also has a sweet voice. An outstanding young man Ahei steals Ashima’s heart and they fall in love with each other. Azhi, the son of the village leader also has a crush on Ashima. He gets mad when he knowing Ashima is with Ahei and think of all possible ruses with an attempt to break up the couple. The film won the Spain’s Santander International Award for Best Film of Music and Dance in 1982.
6) Deep in the Heart
Deep in the heart, also known as A Coffin in the Mountain reflects the mentality and way of living in a remote mountain village in modern China. A young man against his father, a women pursuing love cannot get loved, a village chief destroying his future retiring life by a fatal error.
7) Himalaya Ladder to Paradise
The documentary deals with the past and future of Tibet by recording the life of a Tibetan mountaineering school and the pilgrimage of pupils. They are just like the ladder to Paradise. People think the Mount Everest must be the final end of their travel, but for the pupils it’s only the departure point.
8) The Taste of Rice Flower
In the eyes of the Dai People, rice flower represents reunion and blessing. The mom and daughter’s affections are just like the taste of rice flower which contains multiple connotations, life and death, religion and soul.
9) Brotherhood of Blades
In 17th century AD at the end of Ming Dynasty in China, the eunuch’s party was in power and the country was trapped in war, corruption and chaos. The Royal Guards controlled by eunuch’s party faced to a crucial situation of choice: fighting against their lord or continuing help the later to undermine people.
10) City of Rock
A group of people pursue their dream of rock and roll in a small town of China called Ji’ an, considered as the town guitars, since the majority of the guitars around the world is manufactured there. Rock music was spread into China in 1980’s thus it was part of the millennial’s memory.
A lecture and forum on Films is also part of the CFF which will focus on Pakistani and Chinese film industry collaboration, and developing co-production projects between two countries.
