Dr. Shireen M Mazari, Federal Minister of Human Rights pledged in her speech that the Government will do everything for the protection of rights persons with special needs. She was addressing on the occasion of “White Cane Safety day” organized by Directorate General of Special Education. The event is celebrated throughout the world on 15th October every year for the solidarity with visually impaired persons.
She said that Government of Pakistan is trying its best to provide facilitation to the people with different abilities. We have to change our mind set and attitude towards special people. Government is striving to make better opportunities of employment for persons with special needs with the help of with the help of public private partnership.
She informed that her ministry has approved 06 development projects under the Directorate General of Special Education which will be very useful for the Person with special abilities. She specially emphasis on the 03 devilment projects which are given below:-
- Feasibility study for establishment of Centre for persons with multiple disabilities
- Pilot Project on Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities in Private and public schools of Islamabad
- Up-Gradation of National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children
She further added that with the up gradation of National Special Education Centre for Visually Handicapped Children, its students will be connected with digital world and assistive technology. They will link with E libraries and they easily prepare themselves for the competitive exams.
She informed that Prime Minister of Pakistan has issued necessary order to the authorities for making building accessible for the special people and implement their 2% quote in Government jobs for the special Persons with full zeal and zest.
She appreciated the role of NGOs, Print and Electronic media for the support and wellness of special people in the society.
The Director General Special Education brief the Federal Minister about the ongoing development projects and thanked her for taking keen interest in these projects. He ensured that these projects will be completed within the stipulated time and further new projects will be submitted for approval in the near future. He further said that the “White Cane Safety Day” reminds us the plight of all persons with special needs and how to cope. These celebrations help make people sensitize the general public to highlight the issues of persons with special needs.
Dr. Shireen M Mazari also distributed assistive devices and Braille equipment among the children with visual impairment.
